After opening your eyes in the morning, getting out of bed, preparing breakfast, and running out of time for work, everything may seem so overwhelming that your skincare might be compromised sometimes. But if you want healthy skin, pampering your skin should start from the beginning of the day. Getting puzzled about where to start, which products you should use or how to use to get the proper result? Relax!
We’re here to help you create the easy, basic and not-so-time-consuming morning skincare routine with the essential steps tailored to your skin’s needs. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Start your day by drinking a glass of water
You are probably wondering why we are not directly jumping into the skincare products. But do you know that hydration is the key to achieve healthy skin? Drinking a glass of water before starting your day is a simple yet powerful practice that can make a big difference in your skin health and overall well-being. After a full night’s sleep, our bodies are naturally dehydrated. Starting your day with a glass of water kickstarts the hydration process and ensures your skin gets the moisture it needs from the inside out.
Step 2: Cleanse your face
There’s always a debate on whether using a cleanser in the morning or washing the face with only fresh water is enough. We suggest cleaning your face in the morning with a gentle cleanser regardless of your skin type.
Your skin’s oil glands were still active while you were sleeping. Cleansing your skin removes any impurities and excess oils that have accumulated overnight and prepares your skin to absorb your additional skincare products. Use a gentle cleanser suitable to your skin type. Look for ingredients like salicylic acid for oily or acne-prone skin, hyaluronic acid for dry skin and soothing botanical extract for sensitive skin.
Gently massage the cleanser onto damp skin for 1-2 minutes in a circular motion and then wash it away with lukewarm water. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel.
Step 3:Use a toner
After cleansing, use a toner to rebalance your skin’s pH level. It also helps to remove leftover oil and dirt and further prime your skin to absorb active ingredients.
Pour a small amount of toner into a cotton pad or your palms and gently swipe it across your cleaned face and neck, avoiding the eye area.
Step 4: Serum
You have cleaned your face, you get your skin prepared for further skincare steps, great! It’s time for the active ingredients and here comes our next product, serum. Serums are packed with active ingredients such as vitamins, antioxidants and peptides, designed to target specific skincare concerns.
For your daytime skincare, look for a serum containing vitamin C for brightening, hyaluronic acid for hydration or niacinamide for evening out skin tone.
After applying toner, when your skin is slightly damp apply a few drops of serum onto your fingertips and gently press it into your skin, focusing on areas where you want to see improvement. Allow the serum to sit for about 2-3 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Step 5: Moisturize your skin
You can’t think of getting healthy skin without proper hydration. Even if you have oily skin, it’s essential to replenish moisture to maintain a healthy skin barrier. So after applying serum, your next step should be moisturizing your skin properly.
Choose a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer that won’t clog pores or feel heavy on the skin. Massage a dime-sized amount of moisturizer onto your face and neck using upward circular motions.
Don’t forget to use a lip balm and moisturize your lips too.
Step 6: Finish with sunscreen
Last but certainly not least, shield your skin from harmful UV rays by using a broad-spectrum and SPF 30 or higher sunscreen. Your sunscreen should be the last product you are applying in your morning skincare routine. And Not using it can make your other skincare steps completely useless. So whatever season it is, skipping sunscreen is a No-no and No.
Apply sunscreen generously to your face and exposed areas of skin and ensure even coverage. Don’t rub or blend it completely. Spread on your skin as a thin layer.
Apply it at least 15-30 minutes before sun exposure to give it time to penetrate the skin and create the preventive shield. Reapply every 2 hours or before in case of exercise, excessive sweating or if you take a bath.
Final Words
Skincare products and routines can vary from person to person. These are the simple basic steps that you shouldn’t miss anyway. But you can always adjust additional steps according to your skin’s needs. Try to start from here and let’s move slowly to the destination of waking up with beautiful skin every day.
