In this era of skin-lightening creams, my aim is to give you some solid solutions and home remedies that can help you achieve the healthy and glowy under-eyes that you have been eyeing.
But before diving into remedies to get rid of dark circles, it’s essential to understand what causes dark circles first. Let’s begin
Why do we get dark circles?
The skin around the eyes is delicate and prone to discolouration due to several factors, such as genetic predisposition, stress, lack of sleep, allergies, poor nutritional diet, sun exposure or just simply because of ageing.
To be honest, Maybe you’re doing everything right to protect your under eyes from discolouration, but you can still get those panda eyes just because you’re getting elder. As we age, our skin naturally becomes thinner and loses collagen and fat, making the blood vessels beneath the skin more visible and causing dark circles.
What can you do to remove dark circles naturally?
Stay hydrated
Just like the other areas of your face, your under eyes also need to be hydrated for healthy-looking skin. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day to keep your skin moisturized and reduce the appearance of dark circles.
Use a good moisturizer or serum twice daily containing ingredients like vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and caffeine to nourish and rejuvenate the skin.
Sleep well
Not getting enough sleep can affect both overall health and appearance. Get a full 8 hours of sleep, and keep your under-eye circles away.
Avoid frequent rubbing
As the skin around your eyes is more delicate than the skin on the rest of your face, frequent rubbing or scratching can damage this skin, leading to inflammation and irritation.
It can also disrupt the delicate balance of collagen and elastic fibers which are essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. Over time these repetitive motions can contribute to the breakdown of these fibers, resulting in premature ageing and the appearance of dark circles. Instead of rubbing or scratching, use a soft, clean cloth to dab or pat the skin gently.
Stress less
You can’t achieve your external beauty only by taking care from outside. Stress is one of the biggest enemies of your under-eye skin care. Try to put your stress away as much as you can. Practice self-reducing techniques such as yoga, meditation, deep breathing exercises or just simply spending time in nature.
Limit sun exposure
Excessive sun exposure can increase melanin production, resulting in pigmentation around the eyes. Always use sunscreen and sunglasses or seek shades to protect your eyes from harmful sun rays.
